OmmWriter App Reviews

Good but could be so much more.

Here is the thing, its okey, but it can be so much better. The program needs richer text eddit and formatting options (some basic things like the ability to create point forms). Furthermore, more backgrounds (or slowly shifting themes) and more music options. More options. The program I purchsed, is worth 2 bucks... the program you guys could update over time could be worth 5 bucks... Anyways, if an effort is placed into it, then I will change this rating.

Elegant and truly amazing

Super enjoyable writing experience. For serious writing, I now only use OmniWriter.

Sublime

I haved used many text editors in my day. This is by far the most enjoyable, sublime, and focused (or at least I am). For those who want more fonts, bells and whistle I suggest using OmmWriter to extract your thoughts and then format them in another program. Works great. Dont let the lack of 1,000 fonts be an excuse for not writing :)

Really glad I bought it.

Being a student, I do not get a lot of time to do some creative writing. I tried out the free version of this App and I fell in love with it instantly. Buying the full version was well worth it. I do not write all that much, but I am finding the music to be very relaxing when I just need to sit down after a long day. The App also helps when I just need to vent. This App is well worth it if you want to relax and write about whatever. Try out the free version, you can get it from their website.

Concentration App!

Thank goodness for this app. For my classes I need to write journal entries, and they are so hard to stay focused on. This program is a lifesaver. It makes it heads and tails easier to just get your ideas typed up.

Wont Install/Download

Tried all the options described on the OmniWriter blog to get the installation to work. I had no luck. One of the options invited me to buy it from the OmniWriter site instead...WHY would I want to buy it a second time when its already paid for on the app store? Could have been a great app.

Assrignments have become interesting instead of scary!

This app is AMAZING!!! As a university student with so much to do in such little time this app saved my life! If you are someone with procrastination issues, which lead you to loose focus with the smallest thing, this is something you should definitely get! I was able to write 5 pages in 2 hours!!!!! which for someone like me is a MIRACLE!!! It makes me, the ten million thoughts I have in my head easily! One thing I would like to say is that if you guys do decide to include certain editing features, please leave the option open to NOT having them. Im sure there are some of us that will just deal with the editing later :) THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Use it, Love it

An app that does what it says it will. Ive been writing with it for the past month and found that I am going deeper into the story than ever before. Recommended if you could use less distractions. Would like more Sound control, both in volume and mood music. Also, love the snowy field, makes me wish for all four seasons for that extra touch of inspiration. Add that and rating goes to 5 stars.

Focus and clarity .. greate alpha wave amp

I own a variety of text editors. This one allows me to focus on content rather than on presentation. I use it for just about everything and then copy and paste text where I want it. A pleasantly managed working environment. It could use even bigger font-size selections, though, for the visually challenged.

The best thing to happen to my writing

This program has been an integral part of my writing process overhaul in the past few weeks. While OpenOffice leaves me distracted and unable to concentrate, OmmWriter succeeds where others have failed: keeping you focused on your writing. Its worthy paying for the extra music and backgrounds; I find chromatherapy to be especially beneficial, and there are two to choose from. If you have trouble getting down to writing, or if a white, 8.5X11 screen page drives you nuts, this app is for you. Start enjoying writing again!

Shapes the way you think (might be a good thing)

I found myself instantly writing poetically and peacefully, whereas when I use Writeroom I write with a vicious tongue. I suppose whether this is good, is up to your needs. Its well designed and pretty inexpensive, so while it wont replace Writeroom for me, its a nice combination for some writing variety.

Omm is wonderful... and heres why:

Im writing this review of Omm, from within Omm. I put on my noise cancelling headphones in a busy office full of 20-somethings and... wow. Just... writing. Nothing else. Its hard to describe why Omm is so effective. This is going to sound weird but... it lulls you into focus. My current favorite setting is - background 6, music 4, typesound 3. Omm doesnt just diminish distractions; it highlights the value of focussed output. Every letter is rewarded with its own sound. Writing feels rewarding again. Thank you Omm Devs.

Awesome

Ive only been using this for a couple of days, but i think its the coolest thing Ive come across in a long time. I have a real problem with concentrating ... the slightest little things distract me and i lose my focus and train of thought ... and therefore lose enormous amounts of productive time and work. Ive tried classical music and other types of background noise, but none of them compare to Ommwriter. This is the only thing Ive used where i literally stop noticing everything around me when i use it, and it usually happens very quickly, like in 10 seconds or less. Theres something about the music, i dont know where they got it but it really works for tuning everything else out. I use about 3 of the backgrounds myself. One thing that might be nice is some more backgrounds, and some more music maybe. But thats not a complaint, because it really has enough choices for anyones style. Best 5 bucks Ive spent in a long time.

Ommwriter, I love thee.

I enjoy this app. Very, very much. The ambience is perfect, and after a few seconds - and I really mean seconds - after opening the app, I already felt my creativity being boosted. That sounds flakey, but its true. The only thing I have to say about is that Im not fully concentrating when Im typing. Maybe its just me, but having multiple options to change things, such as the soundtrack or the background, makes my mind wander from my writing and begin thinking about which soundtrack or background would help me concentrate more. Also, when scrolling down, the options become visible and Im once again unconcentrated. But apart from those minor setbacks, thank you sooooo much for making an app that wasnt overly priced and works cleanly. Im excited to see what youll come up with next. :)

ommwriter is a long slow grin

Youre doubtful. Youre hopeful. Youve been burned before. Youve been using Word and it felt like your pant leg was caught in a lawnmower, a big noisy contraption designed to do whatever it wants to do without regard to your hopes and dreams and wants and needs. Word doesnt respect you while youre using it and it wont respect you the morning after, honey. So you fumble toward Ommwriter and on it comes and this tiny grin happens, not on your mouth, not yet, but deep inside your brain. Can this be? What strange little perfect world is this? And the grin goes external, and it grows and it sticks. You type and every little keystroke is a small step into bliss and even more, its a step away from the monster, Word receding into nothingness, leaving just you and OmmWriter and your long slow grin.

Awesome junk

I really liked this app when I 1st started using it. Today I was out at a coffee shop, I had my headset on and I was happily writing away. So then I decide to go and save the document and I was distracted for a moment. I failed to notice that in the save dialog, you have to select the file type. But I didnt do that and I lost all my work. So I lost an entire morning of writing, just because the developer couldnt choose to turn at least one of the save dialogs on by default. Also, this app doesnt use any of the autosave functions that are present within the current operating system, Lion. Bad app! I will never use this application again. Im going to stick with pages and get the autosave functionality. Youve been warned!

Very pleasantly surprised!

I admit was skeptical at first. I watched the video online and thought it was kind of hokey, but I downloaded the free trial anyway. I was amazed. From the moment I opened the program it felt like being wrapped in a warm blanket. I cant even describe how easy it was to have thoughts flow onto the screen. There is something magical about removing all the distractions. The combination of screen backgrounds and sounds is mesmerizing. This app creates a perfect ambience for unobstructed writing. I love it!

Worth every cent!

I am very new with using OmmWriter. From the looks of things, however, this looks as though its an incredible word processor! There are little to no distractions. This makes it incredibly simplistic and easy to use — Ive never seen any other program like it! The background music is basic and soothing — I feel as if I could write after a fight! A very obvious and recommended purchase! For $4.99, OmmWriter is worth every cent!

Pure Art

I have Never taken the time to write a single review but this app if you honestly enjoy writing will help you clear your mind and really enjoying creating pieces. the app is very simple and easy to use. look Amazing!! and a 4.99$ isnt to shabby. IF YOU ENJOY WRITING AND THINK THIS MAY HELP HONESTLY GIVE IT A TRY!!

Beautiful but Limiting

As someone who spends a lot of time writing, I am willing to throw down a few dollars every now and then to experiment with different writing software. Writing is a very personal act, so it stands to reason that there might be one particular piece of software that is absolutely perfect for you. No doubt there are a lot of people for whom OmmWiter would be perfect. The app is absolutely beautiful. The background music and keystroke sound effects, both of which can be tinkered with to suit your particular taste, are pretty and relaxing. Additionally, the background images are inspiring enough to warrant their presence, whilst also being plain enough to not distract you. This relaxing beauty, however, is as much a reason to avoid OmmWriter as it is to buy it. The app makes quite a few claims about being a solution to writers block. In a way, this is true, since the quality of the design almost makes you feel guilty for not typing. In another way, the sounds and imagery could be incredibly limiting. The full version of OmmWriter boasts seven soundtrack options, seven keystroke sound effects, eight background images, four fonts and four font sizes. While this may sound like a lot, it is important to note that all of these options are quite similar in that they are designed to be relaxing and inspirational. If you plan on using OmmWriter for journaling, letter-writing, brainstorming, meditative writing, etc., you will probably find these options to be perfectly adequate. If, however, you are planning on writing creatively, you may find that having one particular mood audiovisually thrust upon you limits your ability to create certain things. For the same reason that you might not want to listen to hip-hop or heavy metal while writing about the beauty of a sunset, you probably dont want to listen to wispy meditative soundscapes while writing a crime thriller or horror story. This wouldnt be such a problem if OmmWriter allowed users to insert their own images or soundfiles as backgrounds, but in the current version, there is no option for this. I feel it is necessary to interject here that, despite what people seem to think, no amount of customizability will ever do your writing for you. If you truly wish to write, you should be able to do it with pen and paper. True creativity comes from within yourself, and any audiovisual attempt to coax this creativity into existence will in fact limit the things you can create. While this sounds horribly critical, I honestly like the app and will continue to use it for such things as journaling and brainstorming. When writing fiction, however, I prefer more minimalist software.
